Telecommunications (Radio Receivers) (Exemption from Licensing) Order

1. Interpretation

In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires—

aeronautical mobile service (航空移動服務), aeronautical mobile-satellite service (衞星航空移動服務), amateur service (業餘服務), amateur-satellite service (衞星業餘服務), maritime mobile service (海上移動服務), maritime mobile-satellite service (衞星海上移動服務), radio astronomy (射電天文學), radiolocation (無線電定位), radio-navigation (無線電導航), standard frequency and time signal service (標準頻率和時間訊號服務) and standard frequency and time signal-satellite service (衞星標準頻率和時間訊號服務) have the meanings assigned to them respectively by Article 1 of Chapter 1 of the Radio Regulations published by the General Secretariat of the International Telecommunication Union, edition of 1990, as revised from time to time.

2. Exemption

No person shall be required to hold a licence under section 8(1) of the Ordinance in respect of a radio receiver which—

(a)

is capable of operating only in frequency bands—

(i)

below 30 MHz; or

(ii)

within which aeronautical mobile services, aeronautical mobile-satellite services, amateur services, amateur-satellite services, maritime mobile services and maritime mobile-satellite services operate; or

(b)

is used, or intended to be used, for any of the following—

(i)

the reception of meteorological or other information connected with the safety of life or navigation, which is broadcast for general reception;

(ii)

the reception of the signals of any standard frequency and time signal service or standard frequency and time signal-satellite service;

(iii)

radionavigation;

(iv)

radiolocation; or

(v)

radio astronomy.
