Electricity (Exemption) Regulations

These regulations may be cited as the Electricity (Exemption) Regulations.
The Director may only make an exemption order under section 9 in respect of fixed electrical installations that are used for the purpose of—
generating and supplying electricity;
operating railway services;
operating or controlling the cars, trucks or signalling systems that are used for the traffic of a tramway;
providing or maintaining public telecommunications services; (36 of 2000 s. 28)
operating or maintaining tunnels that are used for road or rail traffic;
operating or maintaining aerial ropeways;
producing, relaying or transmitting television or radio programmes for public reception; or
operating or controlling lifts or escalators as defined by section 2(1) of the Lifts and Escalators Ordinance (Cap. 618). (8 of 2012 ss. 156 & 160)
Regulation 2 does not apply to fixed electrical installations that are—
installed or maintained by the Government; or
owned by the Hong Kong Housing Authority.
In addition to the circumstances under which the Director may make an order under section 9, the Director may, notwithstanding regulation 2, make an order under that section in relation to electrical work that is necessary to connect or disconnect an electricity supplier’s electrical installation to another person’s electrical installation.
